After one year break, in which people reconfigured themselves in the attempt to adapt to the pandemic that swept over us, the in: v z b l festival returns and once again puts the spotlight on the invisible communities in our society.

The first edition took place between September and November 2019 at the Basca Theater and in various public spaces in the Fabric district.

The 2021 edition of the in: v z b l festival brought together artists from several fields who came into direct contact with different categories of public, with the aim of opening new perspectives on the reality that surrounds us, with the desire to initiate a dialogue through which what is sometimes “invisible” in society begins to become visible. All in a neighbourhood of Timişoara that has come to be associated to a “suburb” from all points of view… Traian Square.

This second edition of the in: v z b l festival took place between August and November 2021 and proposed a diverse cultural agenda, with an emphasis on residencies and artistic laboratories, which brought to the public original cultural products with strong messages from current life and the local community.

This edition was composed of: residencies for 2 playwrights who explored the Traian/Fabric area and wrote two theater texts presented to the public in the form of reading performances, the creation of a mural in the Traian/Fabric area, a concert, a dance performance, a show of forum theater, an invited theater-concert show from France, an invited theater-performative show from Iasi as well as the production of a show produced by the Solidart Association on the theme of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Open call for playwrights August 27, 2021. We will announce on the Basca Theater page the selection of the two playwrights who will come to work in Timișoara in September. Those who sign up for the open call must send a CV, a cover letter and a piece of writing written by them to the association’s email.

Forum theater show “Well, do you hear?!” – September 4, 2021

The show was produced in June 2021 out of the desire to create a dialogue between the public and the deaf community in Timișoara. To prepare this show, the actors and the director met with Angela Mate (mimic-gestural interpreter) and some of the members of the deaf community and consulted about the proposed topic.

Directed by: Ana Maria Ursu.

Creation & exhibition of MURAL – September 3 and 4, 2021

The artist Ana Kun will work with at least 10 children from the Traian neighbourhood on a work that she will exhibit in the windows of the Basca theater space. Children will have the opportunity to imagine by drawing what kind of super heroes they can be. The theme of the workshop is “What superpowers do I have?”

DE(z)INFECTIONS show: at CoVida Loca – October 8 and 9, 2021

The text was written by Victor Dragoș, Ana Maria Ursu and Andrei Ursu during the pandemic, after they talked to people from different backgrounds. The authors of the text set out to find out how some people who do not have access to the Internet, or who did not have the necessary resources to get through this period safely, spent their time during the pandemic. The rehearsals will take place at Timiș County Youth Foundation and the cast will be students from the Faculty of Theater Timișoara.

Directed by: Andrei Ursu.

Dance performance “My invisible noisy inside” – October 15 and 16, 2021.

Unfold Motion artists will develop a performance around the theme “What is invisible to you?” which they will present in the three showcases of the Basca Theatre space. The public will see the show from the street.

Le validisme – the show – October 23 and 24, 2021.

The theater-concert show stars Benoît Bohy-Bunel (philosopher and piano composer) and Roxane Borgna (actress) from Paris. In “Le validisme” the domination and validation of disabled people is explored artistically. After each performance there will be a discussion between the artists and the audience.

The performance theater show No Exi(s)t – November 5 and 6, 2021.

The show proposes a materialization of an (invisible) conceptual dimension: purgatory – transitional space between worlds. The No Exi(s)t project proposes a theatrical research laboratory. Following the lock down model recently experienced during the coronavirus pandemic, for two weeks, 5 actors, a choreographer and the director/coordinator of the project will isolate themselves in the Stejar Theater (independent space in Iași). Within this theater laboratory, the show No Exi(s)t will be performed based on the play With Closed Doors by Jean Paul Sartre.

Reading performance – November 13 and 14, 2021.

On the first day, the text for children will be read and on the second day, the text for adults will be presented, both texts being written by 2 playwrights who will stay in a 2-week residency in Timișoara, in the Fabric district and Piața Traian. The characters of the texts will be members of the “invisible” communities in Timișoara and/or the Fabric district.

The events will take place at the headquarters of the Basca theater and have free access, within the limits of available seats, respecting all the safety measures imposed at the national level during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participation in the events of the Festival in: v z b l is done only in compliance with the following PARTICIPATION REGULATIONS.
